Men's Masters Hockey

Brief History

Club knock-out competitions for Over 40s (Veterans Cup) and Over 50s (Vintage Cup) have taken place annually since 1994-95.   Divisional tournaments followed, first for the Over 40 age group, then later for the Over 50s (2001), Over 60s (2003) and Over 55s (2005).  At international level there have been various intermittent tournaments for national veterans teams but it was the Over 60s that set the ball rolling with annual international events.

In 1995 the LX Club was formed to provide a vehicle for selecting the best players (O60 years) to compete in matches and tournaments of a national representative nature with similar teams from other countries.  It also enabled players who had formerly played at a good level to enjoy games with their peers.  For nine years the LX Club flew the national flag until official recognition for Over 60 and Over 65 teams was given by the England Hockey Association in 2004, and subsequently endorsed by England Hockey.

For the 2023/2024 season onwards the East Mens Masters have decided to change the age brackets to be O35s, O45s and O55s for their County Tournaments, hopefully encourging more participation in what is continuing to grow as exciting way to continue your enjoyment of hockey in your later years.
