PERFORMANCE CENTRES
Performance Centres are an exciting development to The Player Pathway introduced in January 2017. There are sixteen Performance Centres strategically located across England to maximise opportunity and player development.
Performance Centres aim to:
- Develop an oversupply of high calibre players for National Age Group Squads
- Provide frequent, exceptionally high quality contact time for a targeted group of players
- Provide appropriate competition to support player development
- Provide high quality education that effectively prepares young players for performance environments
NB: Dates provided in an appendix to this document although, in view of present coronavirus pandemic may be subject to change.
ROLE SUMMARY: COACH
The Regional Hockey Associations are looking for talented, inspirational Coaches who:
- Can work within a team of coaches to create an intensive and pressurised training environment to encourage the development of effective decision makers and highly skilled players who can repeatedly perform under pressure
- Will consistently apply the Golden Thread and National Skills Priorities whilst keeping the End in Mind
- Can support an inspirational developmental culture that supports player development, facilitates learning and gives players a strong sense of individual and collective responsibility
- Will commit to their own personal development and see the importance of this for the benefit of the players
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Play a significant role in the delivery of all pitch sessions with the other appointed members of the Performance Centre coaching team; effectively applying Principles of the Game, Development Themes and the Golden Thread
- Work with the Performance Centre regional management and administrative systems to support delivery and respect any regulations set out in the regional terms of reference for the Performance Centre
- In an intense, training and competition environment, prioritise player development over competition result
- Lead communications with parents and maintain registers for all sessions
- Work with young athletes and be responsible for their welfare and protection
ADMINISTRATION
Work with all coaches within the centre as a team to meet summative player feedback and selection requirements, in conjunction with the Centre Manager, including:
- Maintaining registers and communicating with parents over emails
- Delivering formative feedback to players.
- Inputting comments into summative written feedback on the Player Pathway System (PPS) relevant to the End in Mind and TDF
- Attending regional CPD days/events
- Adhere to Regional GDPR
PERSON SPECIFICATION
Essential
- A dynamic coach who is able to deliver exceptional development opportunities to our best young hockey players
- A can do attitude and solution focussed approach
- Demonstrable hockey coaching experience; particularly relating to the application of the Golden Thread and Development Themes in a talent development environment. A forward thinking coach who understands a games-based and constraint led coaching approach
- A strong communicator, able to clearly and accurately share information
- An ability to relate and work with young athletes
- Self-motivated and able to work independently and as part of a team
- Have completed an enhanced DBS check through England Hockey within the last three years
- Have attended a scUK Safeguarding and Protecting Young People in Sport workshop within the last three years
- Have a First Aid qualification(achieved in the last three years)
- Have valid Public Liability Insurance for coaching young people
Desirable
- Experience of supporting the technical shaping of Goal Keepers in contextual settings

Appointments will be made based on suitability against the job specification, evidenced experience and appropriate references. There may be a requirement to attend an interview in some cases and the region reserves the right to request session observations.
